Electrical and Automation Installation Works Completed at the UAB Kurana Bioethanol Plant.
UAB Axioma Servisas has contributed to the expansion of yet another Lithuanian industrial company by successfully completing the electrical and automation (E&A) installation works at the UAB Kurana bioethanol plant.
Comprehensive E&A Installation Scope
The project’s general contractor, UAB Okseta, entrusted UAB Axioma Servisas with the execution of all electrical and automation works. Specialists from the company’s Kaunas branch undertook full responsibility for the E&A scope, including material supply, installation, programming, commissioning, and start-up support.

The project at the bioethanol plant located in Pasvalys commenced in April of last year. As part of this large-scale expansion project, the following works were completed:
- Installation of approximately 5 km of various cable support systems;
- Laying and termination of more than 80 km of cables;
- Installation of up to 2 km of stainless-steel impulse tubing;
- Installation and connection of 8 km of compressed air tubing;
- Installation of more than 40 control and automation panels;
- Integration of new process equipment into the plant’s existing Siemens PCS 7 Distributed Control System (DCS);
- Commissioning and start-up activities carried out jointly with technology suppliers from Germany and the plant’s engineering team.
Most of the electrical and automation equipment installed as part of the project was designed for operation in hazardous (explosive) environments, requiring additional attention to detail and strict quality standards throughout the installation process.

Project Challenges
All works were carried out while the bioethanol plant remained fully operational.
“This required exceptionally thorough planning, close coordination of decisions and actions, and continuous management of on-site activities. The newly integrated systems could not interrupt or otherwise affect the operation of the existing plant. One of the key objectives of the project was to ensure the successful commissioning and integration of the new process equipment before the New Year,” says Chief Project Manager Robertas Abraškevičius.
During the most intensive phase of the project, more than 40 electrical technicians were working on-site simultaneously.

The Only Bioethanol Plant in the Baltic States
Kurana is the only bioethanol producer in the Baltic States and the first company in the European Union to integrate bioethanol and biogas production into a single continuous zero-waste technological process. The company operates according to circular economy principles, ensuring efficient use of raw materials and the production of sustainable, environmentally friendly products.
Kurana manufactures bioethanol for the renewable fuels sector, as well as other products for energy and industrial applications. The company places strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, process efficiency, and continuous improvement.
