Axioma Servisas, a company providing services to the industry sector, continues to successfully expand its geographical scope of operations and its foreign customer base – it has signed a new contract with FLSmidth Airtech A/S, a leader in air pollution control solutions. The contract provides for a comprehensive renovation of an electrostatic filter at a pulp mill operating in Scandinavia.
Comprehensive renovation of the electrostatic filter
One of the most important environmental devices of the pulp mill is the electrostatic filter, designed to clean the air from fine solid particles by using an electric charge.
The filter is installed at a height of 16 meters in a huge concrete housing – it is 17 meters long, 10 meters wide and 12 meters high. A temporary 19-meter high platform will be built from scaffolding, from which the specialists of Axioma Servisas will cut a 3 x 3 meter opening in the filter outlet, through which all renovation work will be carried out.
First, the worn-out equipment will be dismantled, such as the collector plates, electrodes and other components. Later, the entire housing will be cleaned and new equipment will be installed instead of the dismantled equipment: several hundred collector plates, each over 10 meters long and high-voltage electrodes, rapping systems and other necessary components will be installed. All equipment for the project will be supplied by the customer FLSmidth Airtech.
“We have performed various electrostatic filter maintenance works, but this is the first renovation of this kind in our practice. The preparation stage is extremely important in this case, because we will have very limited time for the actual work,” said Darius Imbrasas, Head of the Service Division of Estonia.
Work starts at the end of the summer
All the work is scheduled to be completed in just 40 days, and it will commence in the second half of August.
“The biggest challenge of this project is the short implementation period. It is planned that up to 50 specialists will be involved in this project, working in two shifts,” noted D. Imbrasas.
Purpose and operating principle of the equipment
The filter is designed to remove solid particles formed during the technological process from the air flow using an electric charge.
The particles are charged and directed towards the collector plates with an opposite charge, to which they adhere. A high-voltage power supply creates the necessary electric field, and the accumulated dust is later removed automatically or falls into special collection containers.
