Unique bushing inserts were delivered to the Kruonis Pumped Storage Power Plant

The largest service provider in Lithuania, UAB Axioma Servisas, supplies various technological equipment and components to the country’s largest industrial companies. At the beginning of September, bushing inserts made from unique Thordon Bearings materials were delivered to the Kruonis Pumped Storage Power Plant.

A flexible solution

The customer provided the Axioma Servisas team with drawings, based on which the products were ordered for stock. Canadian manufacturer Thordon Bearings produced 40 inserts in two sizes from ThorPlas-Blue material. This is a patented material that has an extremely low coefficient of friction, excellent wear resistance, and durability.

During installation, each insert will need to be re-machined and precisely fitted to the specific shaft neck. “This ensures a flexible system: you can have identical inserts in stock and then adapt them as needed when replacing them. The customer simply sends us the required dimensions, and we calculate how much to grind off so that the insert fits perfectly,” says sales engineer Rokas Šimkūnas, explaining the advantages of Thordon Bearings materials.

About the products

Thordon Bearings specializes in the design and manufacture of unique bearings and shaft components that do not require lubrication with grease or oil. These innovative products include self-lubricating bearings, seals, and other systems that ensure durability, reliability, and environmental sustainability. They are made from different materials with different properties, such as resistance to acids, alkalis, abrasive materials, and high temperatures.

Axioma Servisas is the official representative of Thordon Bearings products in the Baltic countries.

About the client

The Kruonis Pumped Storage Plant (Kruonis PSP) generates green electricity using water. The power plant has a capacity of 900 MW. Its purpose is to ensure efficient electricity generation and trading on the NordPool exchange during peak and low price periods, to provide balancing capacity services, and to trade balancing electricity on the regional market. The activities of Kruonis HAE also create conditions for the use of other renewable energy sources and the development of new generation capacities in the country. The power plant is operated and developed by AB Ignitis gamyba.
