The system consists of a pneumatic electrode inlet port where the electrode is removed from the medium, washed, dried and calibrated automatically without stopping production; a digital Memosens electrode with a microchip inside that continuously checks the condition of the electrode and informs the user of any deviations; an electro-pneumatic controller that controls the whole system; and a secondary device that acts as the ‘brain’ of the whole system (displaying process parameters, errors and the state of the electrode),” says A. Bikas.
Several companies in the Baltic States have successfully used the KNICK automatic pH purification and calibration system. “Before they had this system, electrode calibration and replacement was difficult. The production process had to be redirected or stopped altogether, as the pressure and flow caused the liquid to escape through the electrode’s mounting point. The electrode had to be calibrated and replaced by a person in rather dangerous conditions: high ambient temperatures and high humidity, the use of acid to wash the electrode, which is not a quick procedure and requires care and diligence. Now the KNICK system calibrates the electrode every morning and rinses it several times during the day, without human touch,” says Mr Bikas.
