“Axioma servisas” contributes to the installation of a new cogeneration power plant in Visaginas

“Axioma Servisas” specialists, who have extensive experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of energy equipment, have signed a new contract. This time, the company is contributing to the installation of one of the first higher-capacity ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) cogeneration power plants in Lithuania, located in Visaginas.

Under the contract signed with Visagino Energija, the Vilnius Service Division team is responsible for the supply, installation, and commissioning of all electrical and automation (E/A) components.

Comprehensive Electrical and Automation Installation

At the newly constructed cogeneration power plant in Visaginas, Axioma Servisas specialists will carry out a full installation of electrical and automation systems: from the supply and installation of electrical distribution and automation equipment to programming and the commissioning of the entire power plant system for handover to the client.

The Visaginas cogeneration plant will feature process control automation, electrical and communication equipment, as well as systems for electricity, video surveillance, fire detection, and other process control functions.

Large-Scale Project Scope

The project is substantial: approximately 40 kilometers of cables are planned to be laid, 6 kilometers of cable trays installed, and around 40 electrical panels mounted — and this is just part of the full E/A equipment to be installed.

“The project is indeed large in scope, and the timeline is tight. Around 30 electrical and automation specialists are expected to work on-site simultaneously,” says Tomas Gerdauskas, head of the Vilnius service division.

The actual work began in August — equipment installation is already underway, while project design and supply of technological equipment are happening in parallel.

Modern Solutions and Technologies

The new cogeneration plant in Visaginas will employ the latest heat and electricity production technologies, which will need to be integrated into a single system.

“This is the first project in Lithuania to integrate a thermal oil boiler and an ORC turbine with an electricity generator into a unified operation,” notes Tomas Gerdauskas.

The scope of work also includes power plant operation until the full handover of the boiler system.

The total project value exceeds €2.7 million.

About the Project

The new Visagino Energija cogeneration plant will have an electrical capacity of 1.25 MW and a maximum thermal capacity of at least 6.8 MW, making it the first higher-capacity ORC cogeneration plant in Lithuania.

Once completed, the project will reduce dependence on imported natural gas and stabilize heat prices for consumers. The plant is expected to produce around 56 GWh of heat and 10.3 GWh of electricity annually, fully covering the central heating needs of Visaginas during the warmer months.
