Axioma Servisas continues successful implementation of projects at the state-own company Klaipėdos Nafta – expansion of the previously installed VOC (volatile organic compounds) monitoring system was started in the beginning of summer.
VOC are some of the main sources of air pollution, therefore, monitoring their quantities on the territories of oil, chemical and gas companies is a must in order to prevent possible negative impact on the environment and humans.
The environmental protection system currently used at Klaipėdos Nafta AB comprises three VOC detection sensors, which are installed next to the company’s platforms. They measure VOC concentration in the air every minute. The expansion of this system will allow to have up to ten of such sensors with testing performed over the entire perimeter.
One of the major advantages of this system is automatic collection and transfer of data from the sensors to the SCADA system, which receives and displays them. This allows the operators to monitor air quality without additional efforts. Data transfer is facilitated by WirelessHART, a wireless sensor networking technology.
Axioma Servisas will integrate the stationary TVOC 2 VOC, the VOC detectors, into the existing monitoring system. This will involve delivery and mounting of the required equipment, assembly of panels, and performance of the automation design, programming and tune-up works. It is expected that the project will be completed before middle of September.
Based on the results of tests of VOC in the ambient air, the legally allowable half-hourly VOC limit value (5 mg/m3) in the ambient air on the territory of Klaipėdos Nafta has never been exceeded.
