The project for the upgrade of electrical engineering and control system of pomace presses at Nordic Sugar Kėdainiai, a sugar production company located in the Kėdainiai Free Economic Zone (FEZ), has been completed. It was carried out by Axioma Servisas UAB. This year, this is the second modernisation project at Nordic Sugar Kėdainiai implemented by the company: in the spring, the management system for sugar storage silage was renewed and re-assembled.
During the implementation of the renovation project of the pomace press management system, a new press of the Italian manufacturer was installed at Nordic Sugar Kėdainiai and several existing lower power presses were moved to new technological locations.
In order to integrate a new press into the production technology, a complex reconstruction, that was started in June, was carried out. The Axioma Servisas team took care of the dismantling and overlaying of all electrical and automation cables, installation and sealing of new cables required for presses, as well as modernisation of the lighting of technological equipment. The company’s specialists participated in the start-up and adjustment works.
Both in preparation for and during the reconstruction, the team encountered a number of challenges, which required special professionalism and efficiency.
The works were carried out during a difficult period, when the prices of equipment and materials were valid for only 1-2 days. The cable prices rose by up to 30% per week and had to be purchased from several different companies and only in stock.
“We didn’t want to make custom cables – we sensed that this could lead to delays. We are glad that we managed to order everything on time and did not exceed the planned cost,” said Robertas Abraškevičius, Senior Project Manager of Kaunas Automation Division at Axioma Servisas UAB.
The harvesting of sugar beets hastened the tense work process – by delaying the start-up period of the system, Nordic Sugar Kėdainiai would have suffered an enormous loss. In order to complete the modernisation project in a timely manner, the start-up and adjustment work was carried out in parallel with the cable installation, and the facilities became operational just a couple of weeks after the arrival of the last shipment of cables.
