Axioma Servisas UAB, which provides maintenance services to industrial and infrastructure companies, also carries out important projects outside Lithuania. The team of the Service Division of the Eastern Region of Estonia has started installation of unique equipment at the newly built shale oil plant Enefit 280-2.
Since 2021, Axioma Servisas has been carrying out the project of an exceptional scale – installing a retort furnace weighing as much as 200 tonnes – at the plant under construction owned by Enefit Power. Now additional installation works are being implemented at the same plant. One of the latest and largest orders is installation of EHDO (Electro-Hydraulic Directional Operated) control and valve unit.
Design, supply, installation and commissioning of EHDO valve unit
During pyrolysis, shale vapours are released in the retort furnace. They are condensed and fractionated, similar to the production of petroleum products. “Subproducts” of this process can be returned to the repeated pyrolysis process and reused. Still, they must be mixed in the specified proportions and filtered to remove any excessive solid particles. The design and installation of this unit is currently being carried out by Axioma Servisas specialists together with partners.
During the condensation process, high temperature and pressure processes take place, therefore, all components used for the unit must be compatible with class PN63. It provides for the maximum design pressure (63 bars) that the installed pipes and valves must withstand.
Currently, about 50 units of compliant valves, including the emergency closing Auma valves, are awaited, and preparatory works are underway. The team of the Service Division of the Eastern Region of Estonia prepares and welds the necessary pipes in the workshop according to the project approved by the customer, so that the equipment can be installed at the site as quickly as possible.
“The actual installation works at the Enefit 280-2 plant will take about a month. The most challenging moment will be bringing the pipes to the retort furnace”, said Darius Imbrasas, Head of the Service Division of the Eastern Region of Estonia, referring to the challenges of the project.
The value of the entire project amounts to 441 thousand euros.
Retort furnace is being installed since 2021
The installation of the retort furnace weighing nearly 200 tonnes has been carried out in Estonia for the past three years. Axioma Servisas specialists take care of its design, production, installation and commissioning work. The value of the entire project amounts to nearly 9 million euros.
In compliance with extremely strict technical requirements, Axioma Servisas, together with partners, designed and manufactured the parts of the gigantic retort furnace – the central cylinder, two rear sections with banding rings, seals at the front and rear, and the rotation mechanism with support rollers. In the middle of 2022, all of them were placed on an 18-meter-high support structure, aligned and connected to each other.
Last year, the second stage of the installation work was completed – lining the furnace, i.e. installation of internal coating of thermal devices made from fire-resistant materials, and installation works of small equipment. At the end of 2024, the start-up and adjustment works of the gigantic device are also planned.
The company Enefit Power is a member of the state-owned Estonian energy group Eesti Energia, which unites more than 20 companies. The group is the largest energy producer in the Baltic States.
