One of the structural units of Axioma Servisas company is its laboratory located on Zietelos str. 3 in Vilnius. The main activity of this laboratory is carrying out tests for the determination of humidity and ash content, calorific value and fraction of biofuel, with only 3 institutions in Lithuania certified to carry out the above testing.
More than a year ago, the laboratory diversified its field of activity and, after obtaining the licenses, started provision of metrological checks of gas leak analysers-signallers, and, subsequently, metrological checks of breathalysers.
Biofuel quality testing
Biofuel quality testing is the main activity of the Axioma Servisas laboratory. These tests are necessary for all heat producers, because the quality of biofuel determines not only its price, but also the performance and efficiency of boiler equipment.
Solid biofuels are flammable solid products made from biomass and used to produce energy. They come in the form of chips, granules and briquettes.
The following biofuel parameters can be determined in the accredited Axioma Servisas laboratory:
- humidity content – amount of water by mass in the fuel;
- ash content – a non-combustible residue, which is formed from mineral impurities in the fuel after complete combustion of fuel;
- calorific value – the amount of heat released after complete combustion of 1 kg of the mass used, excluding the heat from condensation of water vapor in the flue gas;
- fraction (granulometry) – percentage distribution of fuel particle sizes.
Biofuel quality tests are carried out in a certain order. The humidity content of biofuel is tested first – the obtained samples are weighed, coded in the Biolab information system and dried in special devices. At the end of this process, the samples are weighed again to determine the quantity of evaporated water by mass. After this, the dried biofuel is ground and used for ash content and calorific value tests.
During the season (October to April), the laboratory conducts an average of 380 humidity content, 110 ash content and 80 calorific value tests daily.
Metrological checks of gas leakage analysers-signallers
Metrological checks of single- and multi-channel gas analysers-signallers are performed in the company’s laboratory. Specialists can check devices measuring O2, CO, NO, NO2, CO2, SO2, CxHy, H2S concentrations and determine whether the devices meet the international standards.
According to the requirements established by the Republic of Lithuania, metrological checks must be performed every 6 months for all measuring instruments used in companies.
Metrological checks of breathalysers
The new service offered by the laboratory is the metrological checks of breathalysers. In order to guarantee the accuracy of the readings, these checks are performed every 6 months for the meters used in all state and private companies.
Breathalysers, which are included in the list of Lithuanian metrological devices, are checked for accuracy of their operation and conformity to the error thresholds declared by the manufacturer. The entire measuring range of the breathalyser is checked with the help of certified reference solutions.
All gas leak analysers-signallers and breathalysers that meet the established requirements are issued certificates confirming their conformity, as well as special inspection labels.
